Metal casting is arguably the earliest and most influential industrial process in history. It’s used to make many of the metal objects used in our daily lives: automotive parts, train wheels, lamp posts, school bus pedals, and much more. Metal forms are made in the metal casting process by pouring molten metal into a mould cavity, where it cools and is subsequently retrieved from the mould. Additionally, metal casting foundries depend on metal recycling as a cost-effective raw material supply, drastically decreasing scrap metal that would otherwise wind up in landfills. The science of alloy solidification has seen rapid strides in the recent past through the development of mathematical models and verification under controlled, observable experimental conditions. This book is combination of comprehensive data on properties, standards and international materials specifications coupled with other unique features. It deals with melting, principles of solidification, molten metal handling and processing. It also focuses on practices of shape casting, centrifugal casting, high-pressure die casting and nonferrous castings. Some of the diverse topics covered in this book address the varied branches that fall under this category. This book will be an invaluable tool for anyone working in the design, manufacture or use of components or raw materials in these areas.
