Metal casting is a modern process with ancient roots. In the metal casting process, metal shapes are formed by pouring molten metal into a mold cavity, where it is cooled and later extracted from the mold. Metal casting is arguably the earliest and most influential industrial process in history. It’s used to make many of the metal objects used in our daily lives: automotive parts, train wheels, lamp posts, school bus pedals, and much more. Plus, metal casting foundries rely on metal recycling as a cost-efficient source of raw material, significantly reducing wasted scrap metal that might end up in landfills. There are several types of metal casting, each with its own set of advantages, based on the items being created and the metals being utilized. The patterns, moulds, and filling procedures used in these types might be quite different. This book outlines the processes and applications of metal casting in detail. It also deals with metal forming, powder metallurgy process, metal cutting, machining operations and numerical control of machine tools. This book is a compilation of chapters that discuss the most vital concepts in the field of metal casting. Different approaches, evaluations and methodologies have been included in it. While understanding the long-term perspectives of the topics, the book makes an effort in highlighting their impact as a modern tool for the growth of the discipline. It will serve as a reference to a broad spectrum of readers especially in the fields of material science and metallurgy.
