A material is a substance or mixture of substances that constitutes an object. Materials can be pure or impure, living or non-living matter. Materials can be classified based on their physical and chemical properties, or on their geological origin or biological function. Raw materials can be processed in different ways to influence their properties, by purification, shaping or the introduction of other materials. New materials can be produced from raw materials by synthesis. In industry, materials are inputs to manufacturing processes to produce products or more complex materials. Materials processing is a sequence of procedures that convert raw industrial materials into completed components or products. The objective of the book “Process and Materials of Manufacture” is to provide engineering and management personnel with background knowledge of processes and materials of manufacture as used in modern industry. It deals with materials behaviour, metal casting processes, glassworking and rubber-processing technology. It also sheds light on powder metallurgy, sheet metalworking, cutting-tool technology and welding processes. The various subfields of the area along with technological progress that have future implications are glanced at in it. It will provide comprehensive knowledge to the readers. This book aims to serve as a resource guide for students and facilitate the study of the discipline.
