Manufacturing remains a dynamic activity that allows for contributions from a variety of conventional disciplines. New ways have been made available by the advent of strong software and Internet communication technologies, particularly their wireless capabilities. Big Data, mass customization, cobots, and cybersecurity are now part of the engineering lexicon. Manufacturing Engineering is based on core industrial engineering and mechanical engineering skills, adding important elements from mechatronics, commerce, economics, and business management. This field also deals with the integration of different facilities and systems for producing quality products by applying the principles of physics and the results of manufacturing systems studies. The manufactured products range from aero planes, turbines, engines, and pumps - to integrated circuits and robotic equipment.

In view of the advances being made in all aspects of manufacturing, the book presents a comprehensive, balanced, and, most importantly, an up-to-date coverage of the science, engineering, and technology of manufacturing. It deals with manufacturing process, subdisciplines of manufacturing engineering, smart manufacturing, and technologies related to manufacturing. It also explores machine tools, packaging engineering, computer integrated manufacturing, and distribution center. Every effort has been made to inspire and push pupils to comprehend and appreciate the critical role of manufacturing in today's global economy. The lengthy questions and problems at the end of each chapter are intended to inspire students to consider potential solutions to a wide range of problems, allowing them to explain and evaluate the capabilities as well as limitations of all manufacturing processes and operations.
